Self-Signed IIS SSL Certificates using OpenSSL

This tutorial assumes that you have a Linux box with OpenSSL installed,and that you want to create a self-signed certificate for IIS5.0

1. Set up your CA (you only have to do this once)
ON THE LINUX BOX…
* Create a private key

openssl genrsa -des3 -out CA.key 1024

(You’ll need to supply a passphrase. DON’T FORGET THIS!!)

* Set this to read-only for root for security

chmod 400 CA.key

* Create the CA certificate

openssl req -new -key CA.key -x509 -days 1095 -out CA.crt

(Provide appropriate responses to the prompts…for Common Name, you might want to use something like “OurCompany CA”)

* Set the certificate to read-only for root for security

chmod 400 CA.crt

2. Obtain a CSR
ON THE IIS BOX…
* Open the Internet Manager
* Select the site for which you want to create a key
* Right-click and choose Properties
* Select the “Directory Security” tab
* Click the “Server Certificate” button
* Follow the prompts to create a CSR
* Save your CSR, then transfer it to the Linux box for further processing. (For the following steps, we’ll refer to your CSR as “new.csr”)

3. Sign the CSR
ON THE LINUX BOX…
* Sign the CSR (all of this on one line)

openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in new.csr -CA CA.crt
-CAkey CA.key -CAcreateserial -out new.crt

* Transfer the new.crt file back to the IIS box

4. Install self-signed certificate
ON THE IIS BOX…
* Open the Internet Manager
* Select the site to install the key
* Right-click and choose properties
* Select the “Directory Security” tab
* Click the “Server Certificate” button
* Specify that you want to complete the pending request
* Select the .crt file that you just transferred

That’s it!

Installation of tinydns and axfrdns. djbdns

This is a small howto in installation of djbdns, with tinydns and axfrdns services.
First install daemontools

mkdir -p /package
chmod 1755 /package
cd /package
wget http://cr.yp.to/daemontools/daemontools-0.76.tar.gz
gunzip daemontools-0.76.tar.gz
tar -xf daemontools-0.76.tar
cd admin/daemontools-0.76
wget http://djbware.csi.hu/patches/daemontools-0.76.errno.patch
patch < daemontools-0.76.errno.patch
#Ask: /package/admin/daemontools-0.76/src/error.h
#to the question about witch file you want to patch
#
package/install

Now install ucspi-tcp

cd /usr/local/src
wget http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/ucspi-tcp-0.88.tar.gz
gunzip ucspi-tcp-0.88.tar.gz
tar -xf ucspi-tcp-0.88.tar
cd ucspi-tcp-0.88
wget http://www.qmail.org/moni.csi.hu/pub/glibc-2.3.1/ucspi-tcp-0.88.errno.patch
patch < ucspi-tcp-0.88.errno.patch
make setup check

Then install djbdns

cd /usr/local/src
wget http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/djbdns-1.05.tar.gz
gunzip djbdns-1.05.tar.gz
tar -xf djbdns-1.05.tar
cd djbdns-1.05
wget http://djbware.csi.hu/patches/djbdns-1.05.errno.patch
patch -p1 < djbdns-1.05.errno.patch
make setup check

Windows XP Service Pack 2 problem

Jeg har haft et problem idag, hvor jeg ikke kunne installere Service pack 2, til windows den gik fast ved “Checking Product Key”. Jeg fulgte denne guide, og det virkede herefter. Super.

1) Open a CMD prompt
2) Then type cd /d %windir%\inf
3) Then type ren oem*.inf oem*.old
4) Then type ren oem*.pnf oem*.old1
5) Then find the file by name INFCACHE.1 and remove it from the inf directory
6) Close all windows and reboot the computer to safe mode and
start the installation of SP2 and it should go fine

Debian Unstabe NO_PUBKEY

When you run apt-get in Debian Unstable, you can get a error like this:

W: GPG error: ftp://ftp.se.debian.org unstable Release: The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 010908312D230C5F
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

It can be solved, this way:
gpg –keyserver wwwkeys.eu.pgp.net –recv-keys 010908312D230C5F
gpg –armor –export 010908312D230C5F | sudo apt-key add –
apt-get update

Byt keyid “010908312D230C5F”, med den nøgle du mangler.
